MasterSeal TC 258 | One-component polyurethane finishing varnish, painted, seizes under the influence of moisture in the air.

  • It has elastic properties, is resistant to UV radiation, weather factors, and anti-icing powders.

  • It is used as the main/finish coating layer in MasterSeal Traffic parking systems and MasterSeal Roof waterproofing systems.
  • It is used indoors and outdoors.
  • When applied to the previous layer sprinkled with quartz sand, it can provide a sufficient level of non-slip for use on inclined surfaces.

Requirements for the foundation

  • The MasterSeal TC 258 material is used in various floor covering systems and is compatible with the MasterTop line of polymeric floor materials, MasterSeal Traffic parking systems, and MasterSeal Roof roofing materials.

  • The most common types: new or old epoxy, hard and elastic polyurethane coatings.

  • Application of this material on old coatings without preliminary mechanical preparation of the surface is not acceptable. 

  • For the compatibility of materials and optimal system options, ask the regional representatives of the company BASF, FLOORTOP.

Preparation of the base

  • On new polymer coatings, if the correct interlayer intervals are observed, the protective varnish is applied without preliminary mechanical preparation.

  • When working on old coatings, mechanical treatment of the surface is necessary, taking into account the type of coating and its current condition.

  • It is necessary to remember that the mechanical preparation of the base is used not only to remove dirt, but also to increase the adhesion of the polymer coating. 

  • The more qualitatively processed the surface, the higher the adhesion of the material, therefore, the higher its resistance to dynamic loads and the longer the service life.

  • The most optimal method of preparation is grinding using diamond or corundum abrasive elements.

  • The parameters of the elements (for example, the grain size) and the processing intensity depend on the type and condition of the old coating, the structure, the existing defects and the expected operational effects.

  • Before applying the MasterSeal TC 258 material , the properly prepared surface of the old coating after mechanical processing should have a matte (sometimes slightly whitish) surface; the surface should not stick or have a greasy coating.

  • There should be no chips, deep scratches, or visually visible pores on the surface.

  • The prepared surface must not be contaminated, such as: traces of lubricants, various oils, fats, various finishing materials, dust, etc.
  • During the installation of a new polymer coating, it is necessary to carefully observe interlayer intervals between different layers.

     

 Conditions of use

  • The temperature of the base during the application of the material should be at least +5°C (preferably +10°C) and no more than +30°C (it is necessary to remember that sometimes the temperature of the base can be lower than the air temperature by 3-4 degrees). 

  • It is extremely undesirable to have areas with a large difference in temperature of the base within one working area (some factors can lead to this phenomenon, for example, sunlight, different equipment in the room, temperature processes in adjacent rooms, etc.). 

  • The easiest way to measure the temperature of the base is with a pyrometer (infrared non-contact thermometer).

  • The base temperature should be 3°C higher than the dew point. 

  • "Dew point" is the air temperature at which condensation forms in the room.

  • It depends on the humidity of the air in the room and is determined according to the calculation table.

  • The air temperature on the construction site should be no less than +5°C (preferably +10°C) and no more than +30°C. 

  • The presence of drafts is extremely undesirable - this can lead to surface defects: bubbles, ripples, shagreen, sticky areas.

  • The relative humidity of the air at the object should be at least 40% but not more than 90%.

  • Air humidity, air temperature and "dew point" are most conveniently measured using a thermohygrometer.

  • The temperature of the material components should be around +20°C.

  • At a high temperature on the object, it is desirable to have a material temperature of about +15°C, and at a low temperature on the object, on the contrary, it is desirable to have a material temperature of about +23°C.

  • It is necessary to remember that the temperature of the material and the base, humidity and air temperature directly affect such properties of materials as viscosity (fluidity), life time, polymerization time, appearance of the surface and the presence/absence of various defects.

  • When mixing the components, the nozzle of the mixer should not rise much above the level of the material, so as not to involve excess air in the composition.

  • The chemical reaction between components "A" and "B" is exothermic, that is, it occurs with the release of heat, which reduces the life time of the composition, therefore, the volume of the sealed material must be related to the number of stackers, the speed and method of application, and the temperature on the object. 

  • Every minute of finding a mixed set of material ("A" + "B") in a large volume (in a bucket) reduces the life time and, consequently, the time of processing the material.

  • Try to mix such a quantity of the composition that the time of production of one mixture was no more than 15-20 minutes.

Applying the material

  • MasterSeal TC 258 - material is one-component and completely ready to use. 

  • If it is necessary to partially use the packaging, the tightness of the packaging should be restored after the work is finished. 

  • If this rule is not followed, an increase in viscosity and partial polymerization of the material will occur.

  • To prepare the composition, it is necessary to open the container, mix with a low-speed mixer (about 300 rpm) for 2-3 minutes.

  • The application is carried out by the "painting" method with the help of a velor roller with synthetic pile (the recommended length of the pile is about 3-4 mm).

  • In some cases (for example, as a sealing layer on a rough surface), it is expedient to apply the composition using a roller with a synthetic pile of 8-12 mm.

  • Rolling and distribution of the composition with a roller (as a rule) is done in two stages and occurs in two mutually perpendicular directions (i.e. cross-cross).

  • When applying the composition, it is necessary to monitor the time of development of the kit.

  • And also according to the thickness of the fresh layer, if the production time of one set will be significantly different from the production time of the next one, or there will be a large difference in thickness, a visual difference and a different degree of matte effect at the joints of the working "grips" are possible. 

  • The maximum production time of the kit also depends on the temperature and humidity conditions at the facility.

  • When applying a coating on a large area, try to cover the entire surface with varnish at once, without interrupting the application.

  • If this is not possible, it is necessary to plan the bonding of the protective layer of varnish on the areas performed on different days in as inconspicuous a place as possible.

  • Also, in the case of applying a color composition on a large area, try to use the composition of one batch on one area.

  • If this is not possible, it is necessary to plan the jointing of the coating sections, made of material from different batches, in the most inconspicuous place, in order to avoid differences in shade.

  • In the case of work with light colors, as well as on a contrasting basis (for example, a light material on a dark surface), it is recommended to apply the protective composition in two layers. 

  • To obtain a uniform appearance of the surface, it is necessary to monitor the consumption of the material and the uniform thickness of the application.

  • The interlayer interval at a temperature of +20°C should be no more than 48 hours. 

  • The following layers must be applied no earlier than the previous layer reaches the state "on the peel", i.e. does not stick to fingers when touched. 

  • The minimum and maximum interlayer interval can be more or less than specified and directly depends on the temperature at the object.

 Application of polyurethane coatings

Consumption

  • The consumption of the material depends on the texture of the base, and it can vary from 0.15-0.2 kg/m2 for smooth coatings to 0.3-0.5 kg/m2 for textured coatings (for one layer). 

  • It is recommended to apply the coating in two layers.

Precautions

During the laying process, the ambient temperature should be in the range from +10 ºС to +30 ºС.

  • Relative air humidity during installation should not exceed 80%.

  • Under the concrete slab, on which the MasterSeal coating is laid, there must be a working waterproofing.
  • The product must be used by qualified installers.

  • For use in cold conditions, warm up the material and fillers in advance (1-2 days in advance).

  • The strength class of the plate /screed, for applying MasterSeal, must be at least C25.
  • The working and curing times of resin-based systems depend on the temperature of the environment and the surface, relative humidity of the air. 

  • At low temperatures, the reaction slows down, which prolongs the time of working with the mixture and the setting time.

  • High temperatures accelerate the reaction, as a result of which the time of working with the mixture and the setting time are reduced.

  • For complete hardening of the material, the temperature of the environment and the surface should not fall below the specified minimum limits.

  • Avoid contact with water for 24 hours after installation. 

  • If this happens, the contact coating should be completely replaced.

  • Observe the ratio of components, do not add solvent.

Cleaning tools

  • After finishing the work, the tools are cleaned with an organic solvent. 

  • The solidified material can be removed mechanically or with a suitable solvent.

Safety measures

  • When working with the material, it is necessary to ensure ventilation of the room. 

  • When working, it is necessary to use special clothes and shoes, protective glasses and gloves.

  • Do not allow the material to come into contact with open areas of the skin. 

  • In case of contact with eyes or mouth, rinse with plenty of water and consult a doctor immediately.

Ecology/waste disposal

  • Components of the material in a liquid state are dangerous for water and aquatic organisms.

  • Do not allow it to enter sewers, water bodies and soil. 

  • When cured, MasterSeal TC 258 is non-hazardous. 

  • Dispose of in accordance with local legislation.

The material is supplied in metal buckets of 24 kg.

Storage

The material should be stored in the original packaging in a dry, cool place (at a temperature of +5°C +25°C.

Expiry date

Under appropriate storage conditions - 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Safety measures

  • Do not approach warehouses during a fire.

  • Products should be stored in well-ventilated areas.

  • During work, you should use work clothes, protective gloves, glasses and a mask in accordance with the rules of occupational health and safety.

  • Since non-hardened materials have an irritating effect, the components should not be allowed to come into contact with the skin and eyes, and in case of contact, it is necessary to wash with plenty of water. 

  • If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

  • It is forbidden to bring food and drinks to the construction site where the product is used. 

  • The product should be stored out of the reach of children.
