A task

• It is necessary to make a high-quality concrete floor, thickness 100 mm.

• The concrete floor must be reinforced.

• The concrete floor must comply with the M 350 grade.

• The concrete floor must be durable and waterproof.

Solution

It was decided to use a complex of specialized concrete additives to improve the physical and mechanical characteristics of the concrete floor.

• Additive for increase of plasticity and firmness of concrete VIMATOL SPL (Greece).

• Additive to increase water resistance VIMAPROOF C (Greece).

Types of additives for concrete

VIMATOL-SPL is a liquid, plasticizing mortar additive that reduces the water/cement ratio.

• Used as a superplasticizer for concrete. 

• The use of the material entails significant improvements in both fresh and hardened concrete. 

• It has a positive effect on the hydration of cement and by its action is a binder of the concrete mass. 

• Significantly increases the plasticity and uniformity of concrete, preventing its separation and the appearance of the so-called. hairline cracks.

• When added to concrete, VIMATOL-SPL significantly reduces the amount of water needed to mix it, while maintaining the stability of the produced mass.

The above properties of VIMATOL-SPL affect the improvement of fresh concrete and have a similar effect on hardening concrete.

• Prevents the appearance of cracks during hardening.

• Prevents the appearance of pores, increases the water resistance of the structure.

• Increases the initial mechanical strength of concrete, already a day after the application of the material.

 VIMAPROOF-C is a liquid admixture that imparts water resistance properties to cement mortars and concretes.

• It reacts with the lime formed during the cement hydration reaction, creating salts that seal the capillary pores, as well as creating hydrophobic surface properties.

• VIMAPROOF-C is used to improve concrete, namely water permeability properties, which is important for foundations, basement walls, water tanks, swimming pools, mines, sewage treatment plants, tunnels, etc. 

• It can be added either during the preparation of the mortar or before pouring the concrete.

• A waterproofing admixture in concrete limits the risk of damage at low frost temperatures and prevents the formation of efflorescence and rust.

• In motorway construction projects - construction of bridges, slopes and inclined surfaces - VIMAPROOF-C significantly affects the resistance of concrete to the formation of salts used as antifreeze additives.

• Forms chemicals that seal the pores, but do not prevent the "breathing" of the entire structure.

Reinforcement (diameter 10 mm) was laid on a clean rough concrete base, with additional laying of masonry mesh, at the request of the customer.

Padding

• To increase the adhesion of the new concrete to the old concrete, on a chemical level, the rough concrete base was impregnated with Viresin acrylic emulsion diluted with water.

• Also, this primer sealed the pores in the concrete base, thereby preventing the rapid loss of moisture during the maturation of concrete. As an option (life hack), if you have not laid the film under the reinforcing belt.

• First of all, in a concrete mixer, dry components are mixed for the production of concrete with their own hands: cement + crushed stone (washed, fine) + sand (river, washed). 

• In the standard ratio required for the M350 concrete grade.

• First, 70% of water is added, after mixing, the final required amount of water is added.

• Since the use of a plasticizing additive reduces the consumption of water for concrete production, do not rush to add all the water at once, according to the classics of batching. 

• Let the mixture mix well, at low speed, without entraining air.

• The consumption of the plasticizing additive VIMATOL SPL is: 0.7% of the mass of cement during mixing.

• Consumption of VIMAPROOF C waterproof additive is: 1-1.5% by weight of cement.

Concrete laying for industrial flooring

• Plastic concrete is distributed over the plane in several stages, by laying.

• Be sure to compact, using a vibrator or vibrating plate.

• It is leveled with a wire and pulled together in the direction you need, with a slope, for further effective drainage.

Caring for fresh concrete floors

• Usually, concrete is covered with a membraine, after wetting the bases with water, or a membrane former is applied , which prevents rapid loss of moisture during maturation.

• This is especially important if the work is carried out in the summer, at high temperatures.

• If the work is carried out in an open area.

Concrete maturation

• The concrete floor is moistened for several days, kept under the film.

• Usually after 7 days, the film is removed and the concrete floor dries for 28 days.

• Now you can apply wear-resistant polymer waterproofing, which will also be a floor covering. Two in one.

Benefits of using additives

Plastic microconcrete :

• well distributed over the base;

• workability;

• gives less shrinkage cracks;

• reduction of water-cement ratio;

• strength control.

Concrete becomes waterproof :

• water resistance: W 12-16;

• does not draw moisture from the bottom (capillary moisture), which is important if you have an epoxy-based polymer finish;

• an increase in the density and strength of concrete by 10%, due to the sealing of micropores and cracks in the concrete body. In the event of large cracks, it is necessary to repair the cracks in the concrete floor with repair mortars.
