Dedusting concrete floor
Dusting the floor surface
Floor dedusting
Real Project
A contractor contacted our company with a question, how to effectively remove dust and strengthen the concrete floor?
Project
-
Reconstruction of an old warehouse, under a warehouse for storing wooden products.
- The contractor completed the installation of a concrete floor, with cutting joints.

Task
-
It is required to remove dust from the concrete floor with your own hands.
-
Increase resistance to strength and abrasion of concrete.
-
Choose a material that will be economically and functionally effective.
Solution
Based on the characteristics of the project, our company proposed the use of epoxy impregnation for concrete.
Material characteristics
-
Fluid primer for dedusting concrete floors.
-
Epoxy based, solvent based.
-
Epoxy impregnation penetrates into the body of concrete, polymerizes and closes the pores of concrete.
Characteristics of the concrete floor before impregnation
-
Concrete floor, gaining strength for 28 days.
-
Concrete grade M 350.
-
For the application of epoxy impregnation on a concrete floor, on a solvent, a concrete moisture content of less than 4% is required.

Inspecting the concrete floor for cracks
The concrete floor was inspected for cracks in the concrete floor. There were no cracks, but if they are found, it is required to repair cracks in the concrete floor in the warehouse, using concrete repair compounds.
Concrete floor cleaning
-
Done with an industrial vacuum cleaner.
- This procedure gives the effect of unhindered penetration of the primer into the concrete body.
Applying a primer for dedusting concrete floors
-
After mixing the two components of the primer, the impregnation is ready to be applied to the concrete.
-
With a sprayer, velor roller, brush or muffler.
-
The average consumption was 0.185 kg/sq.m./two coats.
-
The primer was applied in two steps/two coats.
-
Interval between the first and second coat, 15 minutes.
- This method allows the primer to penetrate to a depth of 10 mm, thereby increasing the characteristics of the top layer of concrete.

Sealing expansion joints in concrete floors
After the impregnation had dried, after 2-3 days, expansion joints in concrete floors were sealed using a sealant based on MS polymer, a polyurethane primer and a 6 mm polypropylene tow.

Sealing industrial floors
Efficiency of the concrete floor dedusting system
-
No dust on floor surface.
-
Concrete floor becomes abrasion resistant.
-
Aggressive substances with moisture do not get into the concrete floor and do not destroy it.
-
Safe operation of concrete floors for warehouse employees.
- The cost of the system was: 2.7 USD/sq.m.

Operating recommendations
-
Periodically, every 3-4 years, repeat the procedure for dedusting the concrete floor.
-
This will make it possible to maintain the high performance characteristics of the concrete base.
