Description
Characteristics
Application

VIMEPOX PRIMER-W | The polymer primer for concrete is a water-soluble, two-component, epoxy system.

  • It has high adhesion to cement substrates and excellent resistance to mechanical loads.

  • Strengthening primer for concrete Vimepox is applied  to dry and slightly damp surfaces (without standing water), as well as in closed rooms, as it does not have a strong smell of solvents.

Application

Epoxy primer for concrete VIMEPOX PRIMER-W, used as a primer for cement-based  (concrete, cement mortars) before applying epoxy-coated VIMEPOX FLOORING and VIMEPOX TOP COAT and epoxy paint VIMEPOX F-COAT and SP COAT.

  • After application of the strengthening primer for concrete , sealing of the surface pores of the absorbent base and a single solid surface are created, as well as neutralizing dust residues .

  • This ensures optimal adhesion (quality contact adhesive layer) for  applying the finishing polymer coating .

Application of VIMEPOX PRIMER-W as an impregnation:

  • Vimepox | Improves surface strength.
  • It solves the problem of a slight excess of permissible humidity when adding quartz sand M32 (Ø 0.1 - 0.4 mm) to VIMEPOX PRIMER-W in a ratio of 1: 5, the resulting mixture can be used to make a repair solution for filling pores and cracks.

  • VIMEPOX PRIMER-W can be used to prime surfaces before applying various polyurethane coatings.

The foundation

All cement foundations must meet the following basic criteria:

  • Surface bond strength ≥ 1.5 N/mm2.

  • Humidity ≤ 4%.

The prerequisite for the above requirements is:

  • Concrete strength class: not less than C 20/25.

  • Cement quality: cement content ≥ 350 kg/m3.

  • Age of concrete or cement mortar > 28 days.

  • The base must be solid, dry, free from dust, rust, oil, and generally from dirt that prevents adhesion of the epoxy material.

  • Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the surface by milling, grinding with a mosaic machine (preferably with a diamond wheel), etc.

  • Preparation of the base is completed by removing dust using a vacuum cleaner with high absorption capacity .

Kneading

  • Components A (resin) and B (hardener) are packed in separate containers and in the required proportions.

  • It is advisable to mix the two components in a third, clean container, mixing all the contents of packages A and B.

  • A low-speed mixer (up to 300 rpm) is used for mixing.

  • As a result of mixing (after approximately 5 minutes), a homogeneous mixture should be obtained.

  • Then 10% to 20% of water is added to achieve the desired performance of the material, depending on the absorbent capacity of the base.

Application - consumption

  • VIMEPOX PRIMER-W is applied by brush or roller in one layer.

  • Consumption: 0.15-0.30 kg/m².

  • If the base has a high absorption capacity, it is necessary to apply a second layer with a corresponding increase in consumption.

  • The purpose of using a primer is to obtain a closed surface of a dark color.

  • If the surface of the base does not look darker after coating, it means that the primer is absorbed in depth and therefore the coating process must be repeated!

  • Application of the final coating with any of the VIMEPOX materials should be performed after the primer has dried and no later than 24 hours after its application.

  • If this is not possible, quartz sand M31 (ø0.1-0.7 mm) should be applied to the fresh primer at a rate of 1.0-1.5 kg/m2.

  • After the primer has hardened, sand is removed from the surface with a brush with soft bristles or an industrial vacuum cleaner .

Special information

  • The ambient temperature when applying epoxy materials should be at least 10-12°C, otherwise hardening will be delayed.

  • If the time between the primer and the application of the final coating is more than 24 hours, the surface must be sanded and the primer applied again.

  • Direct exposure of water to the applied surface (up to 6 hours after application) and relative humidity > 70% can prevent the curing process and cause the formation of a sticky surface.

  • This damaged surface must be sanded and primed again .

  • After curing, VIMEPOX PRIMER-W is harmless to health.

  • Before using the material, you should familiarize yourself with the warning signs and instructions on the packages.

Storage and packaging

The material can be stored for 12 months in closed containers, in rooms with a temperature not lower than +5°C in winter and summer, in the shade at a temperature < +35°C.
