What is adhesion?

What is adhesion?

Adhesion is the ability to bond two dissimilar bodies at the molecular level.

  • The adhesion of the surfaces of two dissimilar solids or liquids.

  • In fact, it is the force that must be applied to tear off homogeneous or dissimilar materials from each other.

The level of adhesion of the polymer coating to concrete

For example: when repairing concrete floors in a warehouse or when repairing concrete roads , we need to apply a repair cement or epoxy repair compound to the old concrete floor base.

The higher the adhesion, the more likely it is that our new repair coating will not "shoot off" or fall off over time.

The adhesion is measured in MPa.

When repairing concrete floors with cement-based compounds, the average adhesion is 1.5 MPa.

And when using an adhesive or contact layer (primer), the adhesion force can be increased up to 3 MPa.

Epoxy repair compounds, have high adhesion to concrete or metal, from 2-4 MPa.

When installing polymer floors, for example, applying polyurethane coatings to a concrete base, it is very important to qualitatively, by means of mechanical processing, prepare an old or new concrete floor, remove dust and apply a primer layer in order to increase the adhesion force of the polymer floor to concrete.
