Dry shake toppings
Topping is a cement hardener for concrete floors.
-
Over the past 20 years, topping has continued to dominate the design of efficient industrial floors.
-
Of the many floor coverings for a variety of industries, topping is one of the most economical and durable flooring.
-
Of course, toppings are not used everywhere. Of course, they are not as effective when exposed to aggressive environments as polymer floors, and not as beautiful as ceramic tiles or porcelain stoneware, but this hardening technology performs its functions with dignity in terms of wear resistance, strength, ease of care and cleaning.
-
Of course, there is nothing eternal, and the topping, like any floor covering, wears out over time, begins to dust, flake off or shoot off. But with proper care and the right load in operation, floors with cement hardener can last 10-15, or even 20 years.
- In addition, toppings are repairable and worn coating can be repaired both locally and throughout the plane.

Material characteristics Fortedur 1020 | Dry shake toppings
-
Topping Fortedur 1020 is a mixture containing special types of cement, fillers, chemical additives, including ASA additive.
-
Fortedur Topping is designed to reinforce the top layer of high traffic industrial concrete floors that require exceptional abrasion resistance, impact resistance and increased resistance to absorption of liquids (oils, solvents, etc.).
-
Topping is used when laying new concrete floors, for example when installing an industrial floor in a car wash.
- The functional reliability of the product is guaranteed in the recommended system, which consists of a powder mixture of Fortedur and a special membrane former Fortecoat 1425 or 1426 varnish.

Features of the Fortedur 1020 system
-
ASA (Anti-Shrinkage Agent) is a special admixture, contained directly in the dry mix, which significantly reduces the formation of hairline cracks on the surface of the finished floor by providing a constant volume / non-shrinkage.
-
This improves the final, visual effect and at the same time improves the mechanical properties of the finished floor.
-
Fortecoat 1425 or 1426 is a specially formulated acrylic topcoat that, due to its full compatibility with the dry component of the system, creates a synergistic effect, resulting in a more perfect hardening of the top layer of the floor and its sealing, against the effects of oils and water.
-
Trace element impurities with high abrasion resistance are an integral part of the surface layer of the final industrial floor system, due to which it is possible to significantly increase the surface resistance.
-
With the use of very small spherical particles (microsilica) in the dry component of the system, thanks to SILICA EFFECT, a lower porosity and thus lower absorption, higher frost resistance, corrosion resistance and increased strength (in compression, tensile in bending), as well as higher compactness.

How to use Fortedur 1020 | Dry shake toppings
-
Before applying the first layer, excess water is removed from the surface of the concrete, the surface must be leveled with the possibility of walking (footprint 3-5 mm deep).
-
The concrete surface is revitalized with a rotary trowel and then Fortedur dry mix is evenly poured onto the surface of the concrete slab, in one or two steps, in a total amount of 3 - 5 kg/m2 (i.e. from a 25 kg product package, 4- 8 m2 finished floor).
-
After each application of the material, the surface is mechanically smoothed by rotary trowels, initially with a disc, followed by the transition to blades, which provide a high degree of final mechanical processing.
-
The smoothing process with increasing inclination of the trowel blades is repeated many times depending on the process of concrete hardening and topping.
-
Before applying the Fortedur topping, the surface of the concrete must be free of depressions and puddles, and the surface must not be dry.
- Immediately after smoothing, Fortecoat 1425 or 1426 membrane-forming varnish is applied to the surface, which enhances the hardening of the surface layer, reduces absorption, provides dust control and prevents the top layer from drying out.

Recommendations for the use of the Fortedur 1020 system
-
Avoid drafts, direct sunlight and premature drying after installation.
-
Additional addition of binders and other additives or sifting of the mixture is unacceptable.
-
The mixture can only be applied at temperatures above +5°C.
-
The use of other coatings without the prior consent of the manufacturer is at your own risk.
-
These parameters were obtained in laboratory conditions.
- Fortedur 1025 and Fortedur 1030 contain a metal filler that is protected by a special surface layer, but can still corrode in damp rooms.
Safety and Health
-
Fortedur contains cement.
-
Protective equipment (clothes, gloves, goggles) must be used during work.
-
Detailed information can be found in the Safety Data Sheet and the description on the packaging of the Fortedur product.

-
Topping (dry shake toppings) wear resistance is one of the main criteria when choosing a material for a project.
-
For wear resistance in armored concrete floors, the filler (quartz, corundum, metal, mixtures of various fillers and correctly selected granulometry) is responsible.
-
Accordingly, with such a filler volume as 55.42%, Fortedur 1020 clearly stands out from its counterparts, in which the filler% is 25-40%.
-
The corundum filler itself, quite large and when grouting, creates a coating, like microconcrete.
-
Also, in the case when the concrete is very watery, the fortedur fits well and is compacted due to its volumetric mass.
-
The average consumption for Fortedur 1020 is 3.5 kg/m2. With a higher flow rate, it is not so easy to overwrite it. You need to have skills and experience.
-
Therefore, working with Fortedur 1020 is not possible for all contractors who like more plastic, creamy hardeners, which are easier to work with.
-
When using Fortecoat 1425 membrane Coating, after application, the surface of the floor becomes a mirror black, which adds to the effect, WOW.
- In the future, the gloss will of course be erased and you will get monotonous gray industrial floors.
